Deus Ex Mobile WIP by CaptainPixel Deus Ex Mobile WIP by CaptainPixel
I really liked the Art Direction in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. This is just me playing around trying to emulate that style at a mobile resolution.

This is a screen grab from the 3DS Max viewport. It shows about half of the scene. Not counting the character it's about 2.7k triangles right now. The character adds another 760 triangles.

Software Used:
3DS Max 2012
Photoshop CS5

I don't have a fast enougn smartphone, don't need it and generally don't like anything on the small screen....but this is amazing! :D I would definitely give it a try...you know...if I had the right hardware...and interest. ^^

Thanks. I was originally thinking of putting this in a first person perspective like the real game but at a mobile resolution I think this top down 3rd person perspective is a bit easier to work with. Though Dead Space for iOS and a couple of the Gameloft games have pulled off the first person and over the shoulder perspectives pretty well. I might experiment a little when this is closer to finished.

Just out of curiosity: Exactly how far are you planning on going with this? Is it just a concept, or do you really intent to make a mobile game?

It's just a concept. More for practice then anything.

I'm just going to finish up this one floor of offices and maybe add a stairway. I'll probably light it properly (right now it's just using colors baked at a vertex level) and take some screen shots of it using a DirectX Shader in the Max viewport.

If I'm feeling ambitious I might put it into Unity3D just to show off the models and texture.

Making a mobile game out of it would violate Edios and Square Enix's IP. This is more "Fan Art" and a proof of concept. Though I'd be happy to help them out if they ever decided to port it to iOS or Android. :)

Send it to Square Enix, maybe they hire you to make the game. Or...they steal the idea. :D

Interesting ,if you did create the models i would have to say they are very similar to the original ones.
Are you planning to turn this into a game using unity3d again?

I built and hand painted the textures for everything. I was using screen shots and video for reference. This is just a WIP so the desk/computer isn't textured yet, and there are some more props to build like bookshelves and boxes. I also plan on baking some more dramatic lighting into it once the layout is finished.

I thought about putting it into Unity3D just to show it off. I wouldn't attempt to make anything like a playable game out of it, I'm sure Square Enix and/or Edios would be all over me with take-down notices if I did. This is more for practice and to illustrate a concept.

Interesting as well , and as long as it is fan made and nonprofit , i dont think eidos will have a reason to pull it down.
Great work on the models and textures as well , they were quite spot on if you consider that you simply used reference instead of copying and pasting.
On a side note , the documentation on unity animations is quite bad , as opposed to the rest of the documentation. I could surely use some help with scripting it once and if i get to have animations.

Wish I could help you with the Unity scripting, but I'm hopeless at coding.

Did you check out the Lerpz tutorial? I think there is a section in there on bringing in characters with animation. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking to do, but it might give you some insight on how the engine utilizes animation.

All those models were done by you ? Looks like a screenshot from the game, ofcourse with graphic downscaling.

Thanks, I built everything in the scene. I used screen shots and video for reference. The character is one I previously built but re-skinned for this.

I'm only about half done. I have another couple of projects to wrap but I'm enjoying working on this one so there is a good chance I'll finish it.
